And Then He Smiled.

My little man has been all sorts of smiley for the past week or two, and every day it's a little bit more.

But his big grins can be quite difficult to catch on camera, so I made a video right after he had his diaper changed.
Who doesn't smile after their butt's been wiped for them?
I know I do!

(Just Kidding.)

(..kind of.)

The Deans

There is a particular similarity that some of the men in the Johnson family share.

Meet Delwyn Dean, Lucas Dean, Elliot Dean, and Boaz Dean!

Boaz was named after his father, who was named after his father (Russell Dean, not pictured), who was named after his father...who might have even been named after his father.
And since Delwyn (Luke's Grandpa) was a major father figure to Nashia (Luke's Cousin), she named her son, Elliot Dean, after him.

I think my brain is bleeding after trying to explain all that.

What a stud.
Elliot Dean is just 3 weeks older than Boaz Dean.

But to me he looks like he's 25.
And like he's already gone to college.
Which makes him smarter than me.

Don't be intimidated, Elise. They can sense fear.
He's just a baby, He's just a baby, He's just a baby...

Aww. Grandpa loves his grandbabies!

And of course Elliot looks like he just got back from doing a GapBaby Ad.

And I'm all "Oh my kid needs socks? ..huh... about those..."

(Awesome.)

I love that we carried on the family tradition with our son's middle name.
Of course I guess I'm lucky that I actually like it, and that my husbands middle wasn't like ..Saddam.
Or Eugene.

If this isn't the sweetest picture ever, well I don't know what is.

I think it's so wonderful that all of these men and their boys have this in common.
It's something to cherish.

Like a cool, exclusive club.

..Which kind of makes me wish that my middle name was Dean too..

18 Things About Vienna

Today my princess is 18 months old.
She's a drop-dead gorgeous drama queen who steals my heart about a million times a day.
Here are some facts that make up the lovely, crazy person that she is:

1. She loves to dance.

And it doesn't take much to get her to do it.
As in, if she even hears your cell phone ring, she will bust out her moves before you've answered it.
It's fabulous and hilariously awkward.

2. She's got some serious sass.

This girl has one STRONG personality.
She's independent, she pushes boundaries, and her favorite word is "Noooo!".

I love that she'll grow up not taking crap from anyone, but she seriously should have come with a complimentary bottle of wine.

3. She loves to brush her teeth.

When she manages to wiggle her way into the bathroom, she points to the sink and will throw a tantrum worthy of broadway until you hand her her dang toothbrush.
And this occurs, at least, a dozen times a day.

4. She's a picky eater.

My daughter, the walking enigma.
I never know what she will want from one day to the next.
On monday, her favorite food is fish sticks. On tuesday, when I give them to her, she licks them, makes a face and starts dropping them one by one on to the floor.
Thanks for making me feel like a complete moron, hunny.

5. She's constantly drinking water.

I love this about her.
She doesn't ever make a big deal about milk or juice, and it's a great habit to get into.

6. She has the most beautiful, ocean-blue eyes.

She got them from her dad.

7. She's madly in love with Elmo.

She calls him 'Haha'... which actually kind of makes sense.

Here she is using the nasal aspirator to clean the boogers out of his nose. Very maternal.

8. She loves giving kisses.

And she hands them out like free candy.
Here she is loving on her great grandpa. Super cute.

9. She's not big into hugs.

So don't ask her. She'll glare at you and then run.

10.  She loves animals.

After "Mama" and "Dada", her first word was "Doggie".
If you'd like to see her giggle hysterically and run around like a maniac, bring your pet over.

11. She has an abnormally large head.

It's true. I never noticed until I saw her with other kids her age. It's huge!

12. She sleeps 12-14 hours on a normal night.

She goes to bed at 7 every night, and wakes up anytime between 7 a.m. - 9 a.m., and she's been doing this since she was 11 weeks old.
My little angel.

13. She loves raisins, dried cranberries, grapes, and prunes.

..which means she poops a lot.

I  try to balance it out with bananas and cheese, so that it's not always wreaking havoc on her intestines.

14. She loves her belly button.

And she checks to make sure it's still there multiple times a day.

15. She is magnetically drawn to dirt and mud.

Then she realizes her hands are dirty and holds them out for me to clean them.
...Then proceeds to play in the mud again.

16. She loves strangers.

She's suspicious about most of our friends, but freely smiles and waves to everyone at Wal-Mart.
Because that's not weird.

17. She sucks on her two middle fingers.

When she was 5 months old she ditched her pacifier and figured out that her middle fingers on her left hand were delicious and quite comforting.
Whatever works for ya, kid.

18.  She worships the ground that her Daddy walks on.

When he comes through the door every night, she goes ballistic.
I love how much she adores him and watching her put all of her trust in him, no matter what they're doing together.

Someday He'll Be A Man

Someday He'll be a Man,
He'll grow up big and strong.
He'll protect what's good and true,
and know what's right and wrong.

Someday He'll work so hard,
He'll learn all there is to know.
He'll be the best at what he does,
but still find ways to grow.

Someday He'll find a Princess,
He'll fight a fight to get her.
He'll promise to protect her,
and cherish her forever.

Someday he'll praise a King,
He'll worship on his knees.
He'll know how much he'll need this King,
to be the Man he'll someday be.
